Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada: where to stay in Egypt

Egypt’s two main Red Sea resorts only look alike at first glance. Here is who Sharm and its reefs suit, and who will prefer Hurghada’s sandy beaches.

Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada: where to stay in Egypt

Egypt is one of the most popular trips from Tashkent: warm sea almost all year, all-inclusive hotels and direct flights. But the resort you pick shapes the whole holiday.

Sharm El Sheikh: for the reefs

Sharm sits on the Sinai Peninsula, and its real treasure is the coral reef right off the shore. Many hotels have a pontoon into the sea, so pack a mask and snorkel.

  • Ras Mohammed national park for snorkelling and diving
  • Naama Bay and SOHO Square for cafés and evenings out
  • Drier air that makes the heat easier to bear

Hurghada: for families and beach lovers

Hurghada is on the mainland and more often has a gentle sandy entry into the sea, which is what you want with children.

  • The white-sand Giftun islands are a favourite boat trip
  • The lagoon resort of El Gouna is nearby
  • Luxor and its temples are within reach

When to go

October to April is the most comfortable time. Summer is very hot, but hotels are quieter and prices lower.

Entry rules change, so check the current requirements with your TripMe manager before you travel.
